A Survey of Toxocara canis Infection of Dogs


Abstract
This study was undertaken to know the status of Toxocara canis infection of dogs in an area of Seoul City, during the period September to October, 1973.
The stool specimens of 130 dogs were collected and also the questionnaires asking the breeding conditions and ways of fecal disposal.
The stools were examined by means of cellophane thick smear technique.
The results were as follows:
1) The prevalence rate of T. canis infection of the dogs was 56.1%.
2) The prevalence rates of T. canis infection of dogs by sex were 58.7% in female dogs and 52.0% in male dogs.
3) The prevalence rates of T. canis infection of dogs by age were 52.3% in over-1-year old and 58.1% in under-1-year old.
4) The prevalence rates of T. canis infection of dogs by ways of fecal disposal were 88.8% in burial disposal and 37.7% in disposal through sewer.
5) The prevalence rates of T. canis infection of dogs by breeding conditions were 70.4% in isolated kennel with ground base and 33.3% in indoor-feeding dogs.
